Norwegian law, for your AI
The source text of Norwegian law, where your AI can read it
Lexar is an MCP service. Connect Claude or another MCP client, and it can search, look up and read current Norwegian laws and central regulations — from the source text, with the citation attached, instead of from memory.
What is in the corpus
One pinned snapshot of the open data Lovdata publishes. Lexar gives access to exactly this, and nothing beyond it.
- 759 current consolidated laws
- 5 112 current central regulations
- 988 Norsk Lovtidend division I announcements from the current calendar year
- 6 859 documents in total
An exact citation, and an honest answer
Ask Lexar to resolve a citation. When it matches more than one document, you get every candidate — Lexar never picks one silently.
resolve("LOV-1814-05-17")
→ document_id: lxorVzaqG4bydV0jH8 citation: NL/lov/1814-05-17 language: nb
→ document_id: lxo9LHJ7AZeHsQ36f9 citation: NL/lov/1814-05-17 language: nn
The citation is the Constitution, and it matches two documents: the Bokmål and the Nynorsk text, each with its own document ID. The assistant reads the one you mean, and every passage it reads carries its address at Lovdata.
What your assistant can do
search— search the legal source text, ranked for Norwegianresolve— turn a full title or a legacy document ID (such as LOV-2005-06-17-62) into the document it names, with every candidate when it is ambiguousread·outline— read a document or one provision of it, and list its complete structure, appendices and tables includedconnections— follow the cross-references the source itself provides, including ones that do not resolveterms— browse the words used in the corpus by prefix — vocabulary, not definitionsstatus— see which snapshot is being served and how many documents it holds
What Lexar does not contain
- No court decisions.
- No local regulations.
- No preparatory works.
- No English translations of the law.
- No historical consolidated versions — the current text only.
- No AI-written commentary, annotations or enriched metadata. What you read is source text and the indexes built over it.
Lexar is a retrieval and citation tool. It is not legal advice and it does not tell you what the law means. A document being in the corpus does not by itself show that every provision in it is in force.
Source and licence
Inneholder data fra Lovdata under Norsk lisens for offentlige data (NLOD) 2.0. NLOD 2.0
The legal text is open data. Lexar does not own it, and you may obtain and reuse it independently under NLOD 2.0. What Lexar provides is its own work around that text: formatting, indexes, citation resolution, and a hosted service that stays available.
